Vaddanam is an ornament worn around waist typically in the south Indian territory. It is traditionally worn during festival days and major family occasions like marriages as a status symbol in south Indian.

South Indian marriages are known to be rich in terms of the amount of gold worn by the bride. Vaddanam is one of the heaviest ornaments worn by a bride. A South Indian marriage is rarely seen with out a vaddanam on the bride's waist.
